Curing disease is a monumental task. Yet, the Influenza Virus is about to be eradicated. Hollbech & Mills Pharmaceutical have accomplished the impossible.  In The Vaccine, Mia Westover discovers the real reason why the cure for Influenza was created. However, an unforeseen mutation is waiting to rear its ugly head, derailing the plans of the pharmaceutical giant. Mia has but one chance to save humanity.
Dr. Anthony Mills has covertly bribed his way into the Utah Prison System. He is scheming and pushing his so-called clinical trials upon unsuspecting inmates. Using prisoners as test subjects are welcomed by Warden, Nick Spencer. Troy Backus has been an active team member alongside Dr. Mills in the conception and creation of The Vaccine. Yet, Dr. Anthony Mills, Dr. Richard Wellington, and Dr. Clovis Edwards have skillfully cloaked a hidden secret of The Vaccine from the general public and their own staff. Now, the mutation is satisfying their appetites and wreaking havoc across the State of Utah and the rest of the United States. Borders to the North and South of the United States have been closed up tight by our neighboring countries.
Kate and Kyle Marshton are tirelessly working their way to each other. Gathering their children, Ian, Josh, and Kayla from school, in the chaos, is no simple task, as they witness the mutations consume people right before their eyes. Uncle Leo Larsen gathers the Marshton’s and their friends like a hen gathers her chicks. Being forced out of their stronghold, Leo aims his family to the more rural parts of Utah. However, fate has a different plan. Mia’s step-grandfather is rescued by Kate. Because of Kate’s kindness towards Dr. Kurt Stein, he confides in her about the real reason The Vaccine was created. Dr. Kurt Stein places a choice before Kate. She leaps. A mother would do anything for her children.

Reviews

"The characters were believable. Some you loved and some you disliked. The story pulled you in and kept you reading. I literally couldn't put the book down! Great read!!"

"I cannot say enough good things about this book. It is fantastic! Such a creative story. it also has relatable characters. I felt like I knew them At times I even got a little teary. It is also action packed I found myself at work wondering what would happen next. it is very well researched and well written. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to more from this author."
Paula

"Well structured and well written. The character tension kept my interest until the plot tension revealed itself fully. The science is credible and understandable to a lay person. The prose reminds me of John Grisham in style and quality though the subject matter is obviously very different. It doesn't get bogged down in detail and minutia but it also doesn't give itself away. It is a balanced, consistent page turner. Very enjoyable."
Patrick

"Good story that made me excited to read more."

Bio

Author 3-4-2020.jpg

Layne F. Hone was born and raised in Utah. His family lived on a small farm and his father owned a cabinet shop. When Layne wasn't building cabinets, planing wood, or sanding it, he was working on the family farm. Layne spent countless hours driving tractors in the fields and orchard. That time gave way to creating stories. Layne would even talk out loud about his stories, being each character, as he sat behind the wheel of the tractor. Besides, no one could hear him and he could have fun and work at the same time.

In Junior High School, Layne was introduced to Agatha Christie books by his English teacher. Agatha Christie's books were mesmerizing. The characters & plots of her books were intoxicating as the mystery was revealed. Layne's best friend, Edward, acquainted him with Lloyd Alexander books. The words on the pages seamed to pull Layne inside each story and take him to those different locations.

Layne graduate in Construction Management from Utah Valley University. His English Professor told him, “You write really well. You should try creative writing instead of technical papers.” Layne took her advice. A few years later, he was able to write The Vaccine, so readers could let the zombies have an undead rest, and begin a new journey with twisted, mutant creatures to haunt the dreams of his readers.

Layne is married to the love of his life, Colette. They have a five children and their two oldest children are married to wonderful spouses. Layne loves the outdoors and traveling with his family. He's been to the Philippines, Bahamas, Virgin Islands and traversed across the United States at least a couple of times seeing the beautiful country and meeting wonderful people.
